Vision 2030

In the spring of 1999 the Laguna Beach City Council funded a strategic planning and visioning process that involved more than 2000 Laguna Beach residents in defining the collective vision of our city a generation from now, in 2030.

The final report outlined a core set of values and seven major areas of concern. A mission statement, goals and actions were developed for each of the following areas :

Community Character—People
Community Character—Place
Resident and Visitor Mobility
Environmental Responsibility
Arts and Culture
Economic Sustainability
Governance and Civic Participation

The project reinforced the many areas where there is widespread community consensus and has led to accomplishments as diverse as formation of the Laguna Beach Community Foundation, Laguna Ocean and the City’s Environmental Committee, expansion of the use of the Mills Act to encourage historic preservation, and formation of a reverse 911 service to alert our citizens to emergencies.
